Full Review
Walk through the doors at Wissota High Shores and the dining room spreads out with all the supper club standards in place. White plates line tables, rocks glasses catch the light, and the kitchen sends out familiar Wisconsin fare to the Chippewa Falls area crowd.
The filet arrives on a white dinner plate, supposedly blue cheese crusted but presenting more like breadcrumbs dusted over dry meat. Watch servers deliver multiple steaks to tables, each overcooked despite specific temperature requests. The meat resists even sharp knives, tough enough that diners leave half their portions untouched.
Better fortunes emerge from the fryer. Golden walleye appears crispy in its panko coating, the fish tender inside. Scallops glisten properly browned, their surfaces caramelized just right. The almond-crusted walleye special benefits from its amaretto sauce on the side—servers wisely suggest this arrangement given its sweetness.
The salad bar stretches across one wall, loaded with two soup options, multiple greens, pasta salads, and unexpected touches like pickled herring and pudding. Fresh rolls sit warm in baskets. This self-serve spread provides the most reliable satisfaction of the evening, letting diners build their own success.
Amber Old Fashioneds arrive in heavy-based glasses, mixed with care. The blood orange version stands out, while bourbon and dark cherry variations hold their own. These cocktails deliver what the kitchen sometimes cannot—consistent Wisconsin supper club comfort.
Steak bites and salmon spread start meals on a high note, the appetizers showing more finesse than some entrees. Chicken cordon bleu and prime rib fare better than the problematic filets, though inconsistency marks the kitchen's output across different visits.
Service shines throughout, with attentive staff quick to address concerns and managers appearing tableside when dishes disappoint. Their professionalism helps smooth over kitchen mishaps.
At these prices, Wissota High Shores has opportunities to enhance the experience, particularly with steak preparation. The foundations exist—solid drinks, an impressive salad bar, capable service—but the kitchen needs to deliver on the basics before this supper club can claim its place among the Chippewa Falls area's best.
