Step through the heavy wooden door of The Barn in the Prairie du Chien area and flickering candles cast shadows across rustic beams while plates of golden walleye and thick-cut prime rib emerge from a kitchen that knows its strengths.

Atmosphere
The Barn in Prairie du Chien lives up to its name. The structure is expansive, wood-framed, and unmistakably rustic, with high ceilings and exposed beams that reinforce the agricultural roots. The grounds are lovely and it's particularly nice during the holidays when the restaurant is transformed into a winter wonderland.  Great event space for large parties, too.  Unmistakably Wisconsin.

Old Fashioned
The Barn's Old Fashioned is dark and rich in color, much more so than many other supper clubs.  The drink is a little on the sweeter side compared to others, but remains balanced.  It's not my favorite Old Fashions, but definitely drinkable.

Starters
Wonderful and expansive soup and salad bar.  The Barn's salad bar is stocked with crisp greens, pasta salads, potato salads, coleslaw, and house dressings.  Plus the soups are great, too.  Supper clubbers get a single trip - so load up, it's great.

Entrees
The walleye plate is top notch.  Golden brown, nicely breaded and evenly fried.  The interior flakes clean.  Moist, buttery and tender. The batter holds without turning greasy. The Barn servs a dependable and delicous walleye.

Prime rib comes thick-cut with a rosy interior and visible juices pooling at the base. Lightly seasoned, highlighting the beef.  Very tender and evenly warmed through.  It's a popular dish, for good reason.

A filet ordered elsewhere at the table showed a firm sear.

A word on value
The Barn offers a tasty meal and an extremly good value.  In fact, I'd call this one of the better values among Wisconsin supper clubs, especially given the expansive salad bar, which is included in the meal.  Well done!

Bottom Line
The Barn delivers exactly what most supper clubbers are looking for — a rustic setting, a serious salad bar, and reliable prime rib and fish fry. The Barn isn't chasing innovation. It’s executing tradition at scale. The formula works - Southern Wisconsin supper clubbers need to check it out.
