Full Review
Walk into Schwarz's and immediately navigate through a sea of locals clutching amber old fashioneds at the packed bar. The wait staff maneuvers through the crowd with practiced precision, calling names for tables as patrons finish their second or third cocktail. Holiday decorations add festive touches to the wood-paneled interior, where every booth and table fills quickly on weekend nights.
The relish tray lands first - raw vegetables arranged in a shallow oval platter, perfect for those who appreciate the simple pleasures of carrot sticks and black olives. Your table comes pre-set with soup or salad selections, a classic supper club touch that means you're eating within minutes of sitting down.
Watch the prime rib arrive, thick and browned, nestled in its sizzler platter with a small cup of au jus alongside. The meat cuts easily, revealing a perfect pink interior. Nearby tables receive similar platters - rib eyes sizzling on stainless steel, tenderloin portions (curiously served as two separate pieces), and golden walleye fillets that draw devoted fans from across the state.
The perch earns particular devotion from regulars who claim nothing else in Wisconsin compares. One bite reveals why - the fish arrives crispy outside, flaky inside, without the excessive breading that plagues lesser fish fries. Though the walleye can occasionally taste overly fishy, the kitchen quickly replaces any problematic dishes without hesitation.
Sides arrive in generous portions - choose between baked potatoes, broasted potatoes that could use more seasoning, or french fries that locals recommend. The onion rings deserve consideration, too. Everything comes in hearty Wisconsin portions that ensure no one leaves hungry.
Service flows smoothly despite the crowds. Staff members handle the chaos with remarkable efficiency, replacing dishes promptly when needed and keeping drinks flowing from bar to table.
End with a proper brandy alexander or grasshopper - ice cream drinks that cap off the authentic supper club experience. The white chocolate blueberry cheesecake also draws raves from those with room for dessert.
Schwarz's is one of Wisconsin's best supper clubs - and it's a great value. Health portions, reasonable prices, quality food, and great service. It's a great night out.
