Atmosphere
Roepke’s Village Inn in Chilton has been running the same steady rhythm since 1968. The dining room stays active — servers moving quickly, diners rotating between tables and the salad bar, bartenders working through a line of brandy Old Fashioneds. It bright and busy.
Old Fashioned
Lightly sweet and very smooth, Roepke makes a very good Old Fashioned. The brandy is definitely there, -forward but softer than expected. Properly chilled, modestly strong. The Roepke Old Fashioned is, to our taste, a good drink - but it's not the star of the show.
Starters
Amazing. Salad. Bar.
The Roepke's salad bar is the centerpiece. Clearly one of the best and most expansive in the state. It rivals any supper club bar we experienced. It sits in the middle of the room and draws steady traffic all night. Fantastic spreads. Crisp lettuce, fresh vegetables, house-made dressings in white crocks. Clean presentation. Well maintained. It's a meal unto itself and something. You need to check out this salad bar. t’s far from a filler. It’s part of Roeke's identity.
French onion soup comes bubbling in a stoneware crock, capped with deeply browned, blistered cheese. The broth underneath is savory and structured, with softened onions that hold their shape. Hot enough to require patience. Done properly.
Entrees
Prime rib arrives on an oval platter, thick-cut with a rosy center and visible juices pooling at the base. Seasoning runs deeper than surface-level salt. Each slice stays tender without shredding. Consistent temperature from edge to center. A strong execution of a supper club standard.
The walleye plate lands with a golden crust that breaks clean under a fork. The interior flakes into bright white segments. It's moist and delicate. Smooth and clean, the walleye is flavorful and buttery.
Bottom Line
Roepke’s delivers classic Wisconsin supper club fundamentals — a serious salad bar, well-executed prime rib, and tasty fish. The Old Fashioned plays it safe - but this is a top notch supper club. The meal is worth the drive to Chilton. Roepke's consistency and abundance most definitely justifies the trip.
