Atmosphere
Nightingale Supper Club sits just outside Sturgeon Bay, drawing locals who know exactly which nights to show up. Thursday brings the 16-ounce prime rib crowd, and the bar fills early with regulars claiming worn leather stools. Wood-paneled walls reflect the noise as the dining room tightens up. It feels lived in. Authentic. A century-old supper club that hasn’t chased trends.
Old Fashioned
The Old Fashioned is very well done. Brandy-forward with moderate sweetness. Strong enough to register but not overpowering. It won’t redefine the drink, but it respects tradition.
Starters
Each meal opens with a warm mini loaf wrapped in a cloth napkin and foil-wrapped butter on the side. The bread tears cleanly, soft inside with a lightly browned crust.
The cream of asparagus soup stands out. Pale green with visible asparagus pieces, it arrives hot and fragrant. The flavor is clean and vegetal. Rich but not heavy. A strong start.
Entrees
The prime rib is the draw. It lands on an oval cast-iron sizzler, thick-cut and glistening, accompanied by a small pitcher of au jus and a ramekin of creamy horseradish. The interior shows a consistent rosy gradient from edge to center. Tender. Evenly warm. Clean slices with minimal shredding. This is what people come for.
Barbecue ribs arrive lacquered in a glossy glaze, the exterior slightly sticky with caramelization. The meat pulls from the bone with little resistance. The sauce is sweet, but is balanced by the smoke underneath. Messy in the right way.
The Friday Fish Fry is on point - searving cod, walleye or perch. We selected the pan fried walleye. Buttery, flakey, tender. This is a fantastic walleye platter. The rye bread and tangy, sweek coleslaw pair nicely with the pan fried fish.
Bottom Line
Nightingale delivers classic supper club atmosphere and food — strong prime rib, hearty portions, and a dining room full of regulars who know the routine. Nightingale has been around for a while, and for good reason. Supper Clubbers won't be disappoint by a trip to this Sturgeon Bay classic.
