Lake Michigan sparkles through enormous windows while thick filets arrive on round plates and French onion soup bubbles under its browned cheese cap—but the view might be the best part of the evening.

Full Review

Pull into the parking lot and the first thing that strikes you is the location—HobNob commands a prime spot along Lake Michigan with windows designed to capture every angle of water and sky. Walk through the door and find yourself among sport coats and dressed-up servers moving between tables with practiced efficiency.

The Old Fashioned arrives in a short rocks glass, properly amber, though ordering it traditional style adds another eight dollars to the tab. Watch the relish tray appear on its oval platter with scalloped edges, three black ramekins nestled inside—a nod to supper club tradition that feels right in this lakeside setting.

French onion soup emerges from the kitchen in its handled crock, the cheese melted and browned just so. The thick filet lands on the table looking properly browned, though some find the preparation style differs from what they're used to in larger cities. Prime rib gets high marks from those who order it, arriving expertly prepared.

Friday brings the fish fry crowd, and while most plates clear happily, occasional reports surface of rubbery texture. The salmon struggles to justify its price point, and those au gratin potatoes come out mushy, lacking the salt and structure that would elevate them beyond basic sides.

A brandy Alexander dessert drink towers with ice cream but barely whispers of brandy despite its sixteen-dollar price tag. Twenty-minute waits for dessert drinks test patience after smooth service throughout the meal.

The location does heavy lifting here—those lake views through big windows create an atmosphere that partially compensates for inconsistent execution in the kitchen. HobNob has the bones of a classic Wisconsin supper club with its mirrored walls and traditional menu, but the experience feels uneven, especially given the premium pricing.

Service shines throughout, from hostesses who honor special requests for window tables to servers who acknowledge birthdays with genuine warmth. The bartender works the room, breaking ice and keeping spirits high even when the food doesn't quite match the setting.

For a supper club in the Racine area with this kind of prime real estate and heritage, HobNob has opportunities to enhance the dining experience beyond the view. The building is gorgeous, the service impeccable, but the kitchen needs attention to match what the location promises.
