Atmosphere
The 3 Mile House is not easy to get to - tucked in the far southwest corner of Wisconsin. But this is supper club country. The Hazel Green area boast several top-notch supper clubs, with 3 Mile House our clear favorite. The warm, casual and inviting supper club is a popular spot among locals - for good reason.
Old Fasioned
3 Mile House offers a great Old Fashioned in a big, heavy tub. The branded glass just looks good sitting on the bar. Plus the drink is great. Strong, but not overpowering. Sweet, but not overly so. It's a great Wisconsin cocktail, expertly prepared and nicely presented.
Starters
Relish tray altert! The drive to Hazel Green is worth the relish tray alone. The veggies are standard. But the three white ramekins hold the treasures: the house-made braunschweiger spread is the star of the show. We hear patrons buy more to take home. Creamy cheese spread and fresh ranch dip make for a triple threat. Find your way to 3 Mile House; the relish tray will not disappoint.
The french onion soup was delicious. Golden brown. Bubbly. Stringy. The dark amber onion broth is smooth and rich.
Entrees
The walleye plate is a favorite here at 3 Mile House. Crispy and golden brown, the breaded walleye is amazing. Walleye is well known for it's flakey, chunky texture and mild, buttery flavor. 3 Mile House prepares the fish simpley, letting the natural favor shine. It'd simple - but not simple, and 3 Mile House does it right. Cook it to golden brown perfection. Toss a lemon wedge or two on the plate. Done. Perfect.
The kitchen takes similar care with the ribeye. It's a pretty simple formula, really. Ribeyes taste good. Prepare the steak perfectly. Don't fuss with it. The patrons will be pleased. 3 Mile House reliably executes this simple, straigforwad, and delicious philosopy night in and night out. Great steak.
Also of note: we did not try the lightly batted blugill plate, but people rave about it. Next time.
Bottom Line
Take a drive to Southwest Wisconsin and visit the 3 Mile House. You'll be glad you did. From the relish tray to the entree, the meal is top notch. The service was great and the prices are fair. While little known, 3 Mile House is certainly one of the best supper clubs in Wisconsin. Grab a map and find your way to this gem outside Hazel Green.
